Judging Criteria

Merit is given for originality, innovative use of new ideas and fresh interpretations of traditional designs and/or techniques.

CREATIVE DESIGN - 45 POINTS

  • Size and Shape of Photos - Are the photos cropped and cut to be the focus or to enhance the story?
  • Balance and Flow - Is there a use of the triangle, ā€œZā€ or ā€œCā€ design for readability of story? Do you see how the story moves through the page(s)?
  • Harmony - Do page elements, photos and journaling blocks coordinate?
  • Proportion - Do page elements, photos, journaling blocks and title share the page well? Does anything overshadow the story?
  • Emphasis - Is there a focal point on the page(s)? Do you see a place where the story starts and stops?

GENERAL APPEARANCE, IMPACT AND COLOUR - 35 POINTS

  • General Appearance - Is it great to look at? Do the page elements tell the story? (clean/distressed/other effects)
  • Impact - Can you see a theme/story at first glance? Do you know what the theme/story is about?
  • Colour - Do the colours enhance the photos? Is there a colour scheme?

WORKMANSHIP - 20 POINTS

  • Photo Quality - Are the photos good quality photos? Are they blurred, off centre, etc. Note: Some photos may be displayed this way for effect and to tell the story.
  • Legibility and Spelling - Can you read the journaling, title and other information provided?
  • Neat, Clean and Tidy - Are there any smudges or left over adhesive on the page elements or photos? Are the papers and photos showing clean cutting?
